Celebrating an expansion into newly refurbished premises Alex has taken over Hermitage Antiques, still located in the well known provincial market town of Honiton. Previously trading as The Character Mirror Company established in 2014 Alex now has a larger showroom area and generous adjacent gilding workshop.

Since 2008 becoming an antique dealer living in rural South West France I became fascinated with the beauty and character of antique mirror frames and mercury mirror glass. Having initially been inspired by dear Alphonse the venerable gilder/artist, I began my journey and have since absorbed myself in this wonderful field.

Over the years I’m proud to say I’ve become a craftsman, dedicated to traditional frame restoration and water gilding. In the unique workshop/showroom ambience I artistically present quality antique mirrors sensitively restored where necessary with integrity.

I specialise in mirrors however, the showroom is home to quality antique furniture, rugs, jewellery, chairs, studio pottery, decorative items and much much more.

My business has grown over the years supplying the most reputable antique dealers, selling through some of the most notable auction houses and constantly deriving great joy connecting with the public and sharing my love of craftsmanship.

Now celebrating membership into The Guild Of Master Craftsmen I am offering professional frame restoration & conservation services, specialising in water gilding and gesso repairs. Clients are welcome to contact myself with potential projects to discuss further.
